Herbs To Include In A Diabetic Diet Plan For Best Results
Diabetes is known to be a
condition that is life-long and has a major effect on the levels of sugar and
insulin in the body. Many people go for the medicines which are chemically
yielded and have an adverse effect on people’s bodies. And, this is what brings
ayurveda into play as its food derivatives are free from any side effects and
can be included in the Indian diet chart for diabetic people. Inclusion of
ayurvedic herbs in the diabetic diet
chart has been known to be an effective treatment for diabetes. In the
diabetic condition, either the body does not produce enough insulin or does not
use the produced insulin. The ayurvedic herbs when combined with a customized Indian diet plan for diabetes can reduce the effect of
diabetes on the body and control the blood sugar and insulin levels in the
body. Few of the ayurvedic herbs or supplements for diabetes are:
Aloe
Vera
One of the most common
ayurvedic medicinal plants is aloe vera and it can be easily found in Indian
homes. It is usually known for skin and hair care but a lesser number of people
are aware of it being a boon in reducing the progress of type 2 diabetes. You
can add an aloe vera smoothie in your diabetic diet chart or have its pulp or
juice in moderate quantity.
Cinnamon
A flavorsome and aromatic
Indian spice used in almost every Indian kitchen. Not one but many are the
benefits of cinnamon like, improving insulin and its sensitivity, glucose,
antioxidants, fats or lipids in the blood, and also blood pressure. Cinnamon
can be included in the Indian diet chart for diabetic
people in the form of supplements or can be consumed by boiling and making a
cinnamon tea.
Fenugreek
It works wonders in
reducing the blood sugar levels in the body as it contains fibers which are
known to reduce the pace of carbohydrates and sugar digestion. Also, it is
known to delay the occurrence of type 2 diabetes. In a diabetic
diet plan,
fenugreek can be used as herbs in various dishes or can be taken in powder form
along with warm water.
Ginger
Since ancient times, Ginger
is used in ayurveda as a medicinal supplement to treat various disorders. And,
studies have found that ginger can lower down the blood sugar levels without
reducing the level of insulin in the blood. Ginger can be brewed in a tea or
can be included in the salad which is taken along with the foods of a diabetic diet chart for weight loss.
Gymnema
The name gymnema translates
to, “sugar destroyer” and is proven to reduce the effect of both type 1 and
type 2 diabetes. People with type 1 diabetes consumed gymnema extract for 18
months and witnessed a significant reduction in the blood sugar levels. And,
people with type 2 diabetes saw positive results with the consumption of both
leaf and its extract. Thus, having gymnema along with an Indian diet plan for diabetes
can prove to be beneficial in treating diabetes.
